Rachael is a Music Therapist, Therapeutic Practitioner and Community Musician based in Cambridge.

She loves to share her passion for music with others through her work and seeing how it can help those in need.
You can often find her at a local open mic night, rehearsing with a choir or furthering her knowledge on Creative Arts Therapy.

Rachael believes that music effects everyone in their everyday lives whether you notice it or not. Music is conscious and unconscious and holds so much power. Music can change your entire mood, remind you of a lost memory, create new memories and bring people together. It also has healing qualities, through emotional well-being, and can be harnessed in a therapeutic way to support people who’s lives have been affected by illness, injury or disability.

More Information about Rachael’s background:

Rachael had music lessons from a young age, but really came to love music whilst singing in choirs. From there she pursued her passion for music throughout school, and went on to study a music degree at The University of York. Whilst at The University of York, she volunteered with a society called the Music Education Group (MEG) and provided music in the York hospital in the dementia wards and childrens ward. It was on the childrens ward where she first met a music therapist. Rachael was able to shadow and begin to learn about Music Therapy.

After graduating from The University of York, Rachael moved to Cambridge to study a masters in Music Therapy at Anglia Ruskin Univeristy (ARU). ARU holds the largest research centre for Music Therapy in Europe. Whilst studying, Rachael experienced working within many different populations such as, Neuro-disability (e.g. TBIs and Stroke), Looked After Children, Neurodiversity and Special Educational Needs (e.g. ASD, ADHD, GDD), Early Years and much more.

Rachael graduated from her masters with the award for ‘Best Major Project Of The Year’. The major project focused on vicarious trauma experienced by Music Therapists working with patients with neuro-disability. Currently, Rachael is working on publishing this major project as a journal article.

Since graduating, Rachael worked for the Highfield Academies in Ely and Littleport for children with Special Educational Needs (March 2022-November 2024). Rachael found her love and passion for supporting people with disabilities engage with the world through music.
In June 2024, Rachael began working for The Cambridge Acorn Project. This is an organisation focused on supporting families who have experienced trauma and domestic abuse. Rachael’s role is to provide systemic and integrative creative arts therapy to children who have been referred to the service. Rachael works for them on a freelance basis and continues to love her work here.

In January 2024, Rachael began to take on private music therapy clients after school hours, and in November 2024 she was able to launch into full time self-employment, creating Cambridgeshire Music For Wellbeing (CMFW).
In early 2025, Rachael was in the position to hire a locum music therapist to take on more work for CMFW. Jane joined the team in March 2025. This has been a wonderful first year creating a business, and Rachael hopes to see it blossom even more in the future.

Over her years of professional practice as a music therapist, she has explored other theory bases (outside of psychodynamic), such as Polyvagal, Systemic and Integrative Theory. This has lead Rachael to adapt her practice to offer Integrative Creative Arts Therapy alongside traditional Music Therapy.

Rachael continues to love learning and expanding her knowledge to best benefit her clients. She regularly engages in Continued Professional Development training to inform her work and to grow her therapeutic knowledge, and stay informed on current research.
